ESL- English as a Second Language- Program in the San Fernando Valley Language Door School.
The English as a Second Language (ESL) program teaches conversational English, reading, and writing to adults whose native language is not English. Eight Weeks
ESL - English as a Second Language for Citizenship
ESL for citizenship. Intensive course of closed-enrollment classes are taught in small groups that meet for one and a half hour sessions twice each week over eight weeks period. ESL instruction integrates Citizenship, Civics and Health Literacy curriculums into the conversational English lesson plans.
Teaching about U.S. history and government and preparing immigrants to pass the U.S. citizenship test have been integral parts of curriculum and practice in adult immigrant education for more than a century. We focus on the nuts and bolts of the naturalization process, teaching such topics as U.S. culture, holidays, and government. Others see it as a way for adults to learn English at the same time that they are learning to be comfortable and competent in a new environment
What is civics education?
For adult English language learners, civics education is a broad term that includes:
- Instruction on how to gain U.S. citizenship
- Instruction about U.S. history and culture, including lessons on diversity and multiculturalism
- instruction and guidance on becoming active participants in their new communities.
Citizenship education is a subset of civics education. The goal of citizenship education is to help adult immigrants learn enough procedural information, content, and language to complete the naturalization process, pass the citizenship exam, and become U.S. citizens.
Classes are for all those who are ready to start learning English or to improve their English skills. Come join one of our programs, the one that best fits your schedule!
The Weekly classes are designed for those who don't have too much time to spend for learning English for citizenship and who want to take it slow but steady. The session is 8 weeks long and classes meet once a week Sunday or Saturday 3 hours or two day a week one and a half hour per day.

Language Learning
Adult language learning requires small class sizes and interaction to be effective. Many of the resources available to adults involve large classes or self-study (where interaction is limited) or excessively-priced language programs. We offer the opportunity to learn 36 different languages at our Language Door School in San Fernando Valley. Our comfortable, casual environment helps to make learning the language of your choice fun and convenient. We schedule our classes at times that work for busy adults. Enrich your life as you learn one language or learn many.
Instructors
Our team of instructors combines rich educational and linguistic
backgrounds and interests. All instructors are native speakers or speak
with native-level proficiency. They are carefully selected for
communicative skills, talent, and enthusiasm to share their language.
Using our approach, adults learn language
quickly through interaction in small-group classes.
